GOAL
To streamline workflow by creating a completely new data table interface, displaying as much information as possible to limit how much the user has to scroll or interact with the dashboard.

Alert Dashboard UI

PRODUCT SUMMARY
This product was an existing alert dashboard for internal operators to monitor alarms that are coming through from established integrated software queries.
Netskope came to APAX with a need to redesign the UI of an internal monitoring tool they have. Mark, the main point of contact that we worked with, had a very in-depth document with specs, wishes and goals for the redesign.
The typical use cases were to project this screen up on TVs in the office and on operators’ computer screens. They were basically asking for a super compact data table with limited (but intentional) interaction. They wanted easy, heavy indicators and easy filtering and interactions to acknowledge alarms and create JIRA tickets right from the interface.
Because of the nature of the static screens and the goal of monitoring these alarms without having to touch the screen, every pixel counted. This ended up being very a purposeful design project. I used color in three different spots on each row to clearly indicate the severity of each alarm. I used Gmail as heavy inspiration for the setup of the tables so the dashboard would be familiar to users. The number badges indicated if there were multiple alarms rolled up into a main one. Bulk actions and filters had to be clear as well.
I iterated through with wireframes to really narrow down the setup, sizes and interactions. How to display each of the selected filters was also a fun design problem that I settled with tags and number badges. When I moved from wireframes to high-fidelity mock-ups, that was when the colors were carefully chosen for a dark interface, clear separations with the severity level colors and what range of colors made the most sense for nested rows, selected items, filter tags, etc.
